Alfonso Marquina Márquez, PhD, is a social anthropologist working since 2005 as a researcher at the Applied Sociocultural Studies Research Group at the Department of Social Anthropology, University of Granada, Spain. He has been assistant professor during several years at University of Granada and has also been a Visiting Scholar at Department of Geography at Laurentian University, Canada. He has just completed a doctorate in medical anthropology with a specialization in cognitive anthropology. Alfonso´s research interests lie in the areas of medical and psychological anthropology, and cultural psycology. He has extensive filedwork research experience in Canada, amongst on-reserve indigenous people and rural youth in Northeastern Ontario. His current research activities are primarily oriented around issues of cognition, culture and mental health. Current projects include interdisciplinary collaborations as member of the Research Initiative for Population, Environment Health and Culture (RIPEHC), a cross-disciplinary research initiative about the environmental, social and cultural determinants of health.
